How To Install A Rubber Membrane Roof
i
Roof Deck Preparation
Clean the roof surface prior to installation
Be sure the roof surface is clean, complimentary of dust, dirt, rust, oil, grease, and loose material. The roof surface must exist dry out. This product will not adhere to wet surfaces. Trapped moisture may vaporize and negatively bear on the performance of this product. This system is best installed onto a timber deck either outside class ply or OSB3.
Whatsoever residuum bitumen from an onetime roof should either be removed or over boarded as this will adversely affect the performance of the EPDM prophylactic membrane.
2
Install Drip Crossbar
Install the Baste batten wherever a gutter is present. This will extend the roof deck and so that h2o run off drips in to the gutter rather than behind the gutter.
3
Install Drip Back Drip Trim
The Drip Trim has a front end and back piece. Install theDrip Trim backplate using the nails provided. Marshal the curved acme edge of the trim with the timber batten.
four
Chase out Wall Upstand
Chase out brick mortar articulation using angle grinder or mortar chisel prepare to take Wall Trim flashing.
v
Relax Rubber Membrane
Let the rubber membrane to relax in position for 30 minutes.
6
Fold Membrane Halfway
Fold the rubber membrane back to expose half of the roof deck.
7
Apply Deck Adhesive
Apply Water Based Deck Adhesive using a ix" paint roller. Get out a 150mm un-bonded area around the roof deck perimeter for bonding later with Contact Adhesive
Roll the EPDM membrane dorsum in to position immediately whilst the adhesive is STILL WET
If the adhesive dries out (becomes opaque) before the membrane is relayed then a thin glaze tin can be applied to the dorsum of the MEMBRANE and allowed to dry before installing. Apply adhesive to smaller area in hot whether to avert premature drying.
(Water based adhesives should but be used when the exterior temperatures is four degrees and rising and no run a risk of freezing weather in the post-obit 24-48 hours)
viii
Sweep EPDM Membrane
Sweep EPDM membrane to remove trapped air and ameliorate bonding to substrate.
9
Utilize Contact Adhesive to Roof Perimeter
Apply a THIN glaze of Contact Agglutinative to the roof deck perimeter (approximately 150mm width) and whatsoever vertical upstands. As well apply the Contact Agglutinative to the dorsum of the rubber membrane.
Contact Adhesive tin can also be used to bond the condom membrane to most porous and not-porous surfaces then can be used in identify of h2o based deck agglutinative if necessary
10
Ensure Contact Agglutinative is Touch Dry out
Ensure the Contact Adhesive is bear upon dry and there are no puddles of adhesive.
The Contact Adhesive gives off a vapour every bit information technology cures. If the membrane is bonded before the Contact Agglutinative has fully dried bubbling/blisters may announced. These bubbling should disappear over time due to the EPDM membrane being breathable.
xi
Cutting Back Excess Material
Trim whatever excess material from walls and upstands using the chase out as a guide.
12
Cut Elastoform to size
Elastoform is used to waterproof profiles in the roof shape which tin not exist achieved with the safe membrane such as external corners.
Cut ix" Elastoform to size allowing upstand height plus an actress 75mm on the length by 150mm on the width. (75mm on to rubber & 75mm on to Brick/render).
13
Apply Safety Primer
Apply an even glaze of EPDM Rubber Primer using a paint brush to an area slightly larger than the Elastoform patch.
14
Ensure Primer is Impact Dry out
Ensure primer is affect dry out.
15
Install Elastoform
Install Elastoform Tape.
When installing Elastoform e'er bond the area which requires no stretching showtime, leaving the stretching office until last.
Keep the Elastoform in a warm place in cold weather as this volition aid the moulding procedure.
16
Apply Pressure level to Elastoform
Apply pressure to Elastoform to ensure fully bonded.
17
Stretch Elastoform
Stretch Elastoform.
eighteen
Penny Roller Detail
Apply light pressure level using penny roller to ensure Elastoform bonds to all surfaces.
19
Install Wall Trim
Install Wall Trim in to chased out mortar join.
twenty
Drill Wall Trim
Drill Wall Trim and wall with 7mm masonry drill to accept rawlplug.
21
Install RawlPlug
Install RawlPlug.
22
Install Fastener
Install Fastener.
23
Install Mastic to Wall Trim and Wall Slot
Use mastic to wall trim and wall chase out.
24
Folding the Rubber Membrane on a Roof Corner
The membrane can be folded without cutting when detailing an external roof corner prior to installing border trims.
25
Course Pigs Ear
Pinch the condom membrane together to form a pigs ear.
26
Fold Pigs Ear
Fold pigs ear on to side of roof.
27
Fit Trim Corner
Place the trim corner in position employ pressure to squash the foam sealer and nail the polypins in to fascia and batten.
28
Fit Plastic trim Kerb Border
The Plastic trim Kerb Edge is designed to deflect water dorsum on to the roof. (traditionally this would be achieved with an arris rail).
Cut the kerb border trim to length and utilize pressure to the top of the trim then polypin to secure
The foam should be compressed by 70-80%
29
Fit Trim Joining Clip
Snap the joint clips provided in to position.
30
Fit plastic trim Drip or Gutter Trim
Fit plastic trim Drip or Gutter front end trim using polypins provided and install jointing clips where necessary.
31
Trim Excess Rubber Membrane
Trim the backlog rubber membrane with a precipitous knife or scissors. Have intendance non to score the fascia or gutter.
32
Completed Rubber Roof
The completed rubber roof has a life expectancy of 50+ years and volition require very little maintenance throughout its life.
